Who are we?
Initial Inspiration
Hello! I am Maria. My better half Aidan and I are two coddiwomplers based out of Vancouver, Canada. Well, three, actually. There’s also Skunk, but he wanted his own page.
It all started in England on the Valentine's weekend of 2011, when Aidan’s best friend stood him up. So instead, Aidan took me on their date to the London Motorcycle Show. Turned out, I actually quite like motorcycles and we had a blast.
Aidan and I both love reading, so when we found Sam Manicom selling his books about his eight-year motorcycle journey around the world, we had to stop for a chat. His stories had us spellbound.
On the train home Aidan and I looked at each other: “Do you want to travel around the world by motorcycle?”
“Yup!”
That was that settled.
Coddiwomplings
We passed our motorcycle drivers licenses, saved what we could, sold what little we had, and set off in the early spring of 2014. Of course our meagre funds did not get us all the way around the world, and we had to pause to top up the coffers.
The single trip around the entire globe morphed into a life interrupted by travel. Or is it travel interrupted by life?
Our longer motorcycle journeys have taken us across Europe to the Republic of Georgia, six months down the length of India, a year around Australia, and two years from Canada to Argentina. Not to mention the many shorter motorcycle adventures we’ve been on in between.
Sharing the Magic of the Road
While Aidan continues his career in Architecture, I’m on a mission to make the world a better place by expanding horizons and sparking curiosity through travel writing. When heading out there is not possible, couch-travel is the next best thing. So I am sharing photos and stories with you in magazine articles and on social media. I’ve also contributed a chapter to Sam Manicom and Friends’ The Moment Collectors - Asia, and I am starting on a book of my own. Watch this space!
